Applying Divine Barrier onto a teammate grants you kill assists from that teammate for the entire match*

You can Divine Barrier your entire team and get assists the entire game if no one else on the team uses Divine Barrier

I replicated this in sandbox mode and in a bot match. I'll add on that you also continue to get assists even if you put the buff on someone else. I placed the buff on every bot and no matter how long it was later in the match, I would still get assists for any kill they get. This includes if I was on the opposite side of the map.
