Accepting an in-game friend request locks you out of the main menu

I accepted a friend request from in-game and the "Please wait" box never went away. I had to restart my game to get rid of it.

Can confirm accepting a Steam friend request in the game client locks up the client. Same as shown in @sander945's screenshot.

Reproduction steps:
1. Have a Steam friend request pending.
2. Accept from the option in client.
3. !profit
