I held tab to unlock my first ability playing as Abrams. I let go of TAB and the level-up segment of the HUD didn't disappear despite the rest of the HUD doing so. For the rest of the game, pressing the ability buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4 didn't activate their respective abilities. The Z button for the active item 'Cold Front' did work, so it was just the numbers. I wasn't using the NUMPAD.
