I'm a huge fan of martial arts, and think that Deadlock's setting gives amazing opportunity to create a unique and interesting one. The lore concept is a mummy, after being moved to the British Museum, awakens and tries to integrate back into society, and took a liking to boxing as a sport and hobby.
The gameplay concept is a spirit/melee hybrid bruiser whose "gun" is punching spectral blasts.
1st ability: Flurry: The Pugilist fires a series of spectral blows before committing to a straight punch that sends a large projectile a short distance that applies light melee damage and slows. If hit at close range the flurry slows, and the straight punch does a brief .2 stun interrupting enemy actions. Could have upgrades pertaining to increasing stun duration, making flurry apply heavy melee on the final attack, and/or increasing movement speed during the attack.
2nd ability: King's Guard: The Pugilist ducks performs a Dempsey Roll, moving forward a distance while gaining 100% bullet evasion during travel time. upgrades could include granting a spirit scaling barrier on activation, reducing cooldown/giving charges, and tier 3 could grant the bullet evasion buff briefly after completing the dash.
3rd ability: It's a Wrap: The Pugilist throws out a bandage at a medium distance, upon hitting an enemy doing a burst of spirit damage and applying a heavy slow. Upgrades could include increasing the slow/duration, increasing the damage, and reducing the affected enemy's turn rate
Ultimate ability: Champion's Bout: The Pugilist explodes with spectral energy, damaging nearby enemies, resetting the cooldowns and temporarily buffing their basic abilities. Upgrades could include increasing duration/explosion damage, applying crowd control of some sort such as fire rate slow on explosion hit, and cooldown reduction.
Upgraded Flurry: Flurry now applies gun effects, does increased damage on final punch blast, and disables movement abilities at close range
Upgraded King's Guard: Cooldown lowered, and now performs additional actions when used in tandem with other abilities. When used at any point during flurry, including right after the final attack, King's Guard will perform an uppercut if the Pugilist makes contact with an enemy. When used after It's a Wrap has hit an enemy will dash straight to the enemy and perform a heavy-handed hook on contact that lowers resistances on the enemy briefly.
Upgraded It's a Wrap: Now roots enemies, spinning them in place on hit, and tethers to the enemy, granting increased movement speed and life steal against them. On hit resets Flurry cooldown.
If you've read this far, thank you for your time. The time period Deadlock is set in also happens to line up perfectly with Jack Dempsey's boxing carerr (1914-1927) which makes the concept feel especially appropriate for the setting, and the mummy concept adds a fun and interesting juxtaposition to what is usually expected from boxing characters while maintaining an identity that can easily connect to the lore of supernatural events.
