Valve/Deadlock Staff,
I do not come here with ability ideas, artwork, or really anything other than a single request when it comes to a new hero, and it's that you give him the same name as me. Now this may seem selfish, in fact it very much is, but I do have an explanation.
First off my name is Jory. I have never met another individual named Jory in real life and only a handful online. When you google the name, you get some cowboy movie from the 70s that I intend to watch but never have. The only famous Jory I even know of off hand is Jory Prum, Audio Engineer responsible for the Grim Fandango soundtrack among many other works who tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident.
Second, every fictional Jory in any media I have ever consumed dies in the first part of the story they belong to. Examples include Ser Jory from Dragon Age Origins, Jory Cassel from Game of Thrones, and a minor NPC named Jory in SWTOR who really didn't have to die but did anyway. There was even a gag in the Letterkenny spinoff "Shoresy" that made fun of my name. So as you can see fictional Jorys have been a great disappointment to me.
Lastly, the character's display name doesn't have to be just "Jory", he could take the Pocket, Graves, Grey Talon, etc. approach where they have a title or nickname and in their bio or interactions their real name could be used. I have an extremely low bar here and just want someone named Jory who doesn't suck.
For all of you reading who think this is dumb. You are correct, it's petty and not really important at all, but I want you to think about your name. It could be normal or it could be extravagant and noteworthy. Mine is neither. It's four letters and I still have to spell it out when I order coffee, truthfully the worst of both worlds. The character could be anything, man, woman, robot, another pile of goo, I don't really care. As long as they are a playable character that is featured in the game.
Thank you,
-Jory
