agree that it is confusing
i only pitch it as a band-aid that may be easier to code until damage from spells with ongoing effects can be categorized differently. however they did figure it out with Ivy tether and Rem helpers. so I wish we could get whoever sorted those out to also do a pass on...
I don't get why Rem should deserve to have his Magic Carpet interaction fixed inside of 2 months of release while Paige has been this way since October at least...
I don't see why Rem should deserve for this bug to be fixed before other heroes who have been bugged since October (it's Paige, I am whining about Paige). Shouts out to whoever individually led the charge on getting this fixed but can I please petition for Paige's Bookwyrm to get the same treatment.
Magic Carpet did not need +50% buff duration to be a solid item. It needs to not get dispelled for no reason on half of the roster. Today's patch gives it way more buff duration than necessary and it will still be bad on half of the heroes in the game.

I don't mind beam interrupting magic carpet since at least it is an action that a player deliberately performs. And Carpet has served its purpose once it has gotten you into a good position to press Beam. Heroes like Paige and Rem can have carpet cancelled by the lingering effects of a spell...
March would be a beautiful month to squash this bug in my opinion. I will work for free if I can be provided with a developer environment, I just want my carpet to work. About half the heroes in the game are plagued by some variation of this, causing the best item in the game to suck on them...
Every character, ability, and item in the game has been designed and balanced around this form of instantaneous velocity not existing in the game. I don't see a very good argument for keeping it beyond "it feels good to use". It is ugly to look at, moves characters an unreasonably far distance...
Interesting, surely this has something to do with the other bugs with shapeshift abilities, they are not categorized as spells for the purpose of Spellslinger and Witchmail.
