You start with the first one - Pantalone, the one that can pull enemies in and act as a turret. You suppoosed to take your 2 ability first for AoE burst+pull. Actually i think second ability should be already unlocked by default when you start a match, because other abilities don't work without...
$800 Spirit Cover - a vitality item that reduces spirit damage if it's smaller than a certain amount (needs testing or can be increased with level), by 40%.
- this item is supposed to counter an "infernus with aimbot" type of enemy
- also helps with things like toxic bullets, tesla bullets...
there is an identity to damage types - spirit is "chip damage", low but hard to avoid, and gun is "direct damage" - high but easy to avoid. So, to apply your gun damage you need to aim, ond for applying spirit damage aiming is optional. Mercurial magnum suits that idea, Soul shrapnel doesn't
For 1600 souls you get an item "Watcher's key" that lets you return back to base after channeling, for 6400 you can buy "Watcher's door", that allows you to open a doorman partal back to base
