I get the splash art and then the game crashes, no error messages. Not sure if that's the same issue EDIT: Restarted my PC and the game launches fine now

I had the same issue, gmail has an option to "show original" for the email by clicking the three dots on the right of the email. The invite link is in there, you just have to copy it, that worked for me
