It may be due to your settings. Check to see what your modifier key is, and it's behaviour. It might be toggled on to self cast, causing you to always self cast.

I am the same. No matter how many friends I have online or what they are doing in Deadlock. It always remains "Main Menu". I can view them in the watch tab, I also can select them and click spectate match.
