Malus - T1 Healing Item

Stats:

+ 1 m/s Sprint Speed
+ 15% Stamina Recovery

Effect: Every time you destroy a breakable, heal 15 (Scaling with Boons) hp.

We already have a Salve item, and I thought a Tango item could be fun, especially as breakables around the map are already interesting gameplay wise. It also presents a different sort of healing item than Healing Rite, in that it’s less stoppable by enemies but also has the requirement of the breakables being there. It would also potentially scale a bit better into the match than Healing Rite for some characters.

Malus both sounds like Malice, and is the scientific name for apples ie The Big Apple, etc.
 
With those passives I would place this more around a T2 (maybe with a tiny bit more juice) but I like this a lot. New Calico default item lol

It’s stat numbers are lower than other respective T1s, and also that effect is such that you’d need to break 20 breakables to heal the same amount as Healing Rite at base, which isn’t a small amount. That’s effectively every breakable close to a lane, and only one person could benefit from it. Numbers can be tuned for balance reasons though, I just figured it’d be interesting to have a different cheap heal option for lane that enemies counter in a different way (remembering to take boxes or steal them).
 
I honestly feel like boxes should just heal people by default, but I won't say no to it being a T1 item.

That said, I would add an upgrade that increases the healing and also triggers a bit of CD reduction (maybe something like .2 or .3s reduced CD per Box/Golden Statue?). It could also increase the value of souls/buffs collected, which would make it a fun economy item like Trophy Collector and Cultist Sacrifice are.

Oooh! Maybe instead of CD reduction you make it so that the upgrade charges the item up and you can activate it to deal a targeted blast of Spirit damage (you would still want the bonus Souls/value from destructibles)! Then it would work REALLY well for a roaming hero and would be an appropriate Spirit themed item.

I think there’s room for an upgrade yeah, but I am not sure if I would want it as an active or damage item as Cultist already does both of those. Cooldown maybe, but imagining a Calico or other good roamer leaving to do boxes and having their full kit back way sooner sounds a bit spicy.

.2 or .3s isn't all that much and collecting 20 boxes only adds up to something like 4-6 seconds. It's not all that much CDR, and can't be used during combat so it wouldn't be bad.

Either way, having it build up to a single target nuke would make it fill both a unique niche and be an economy item, which is really solid and "Single target nuke item" isn't a niche filled by the current item pool

You know what, you’ve convinced me. A Dagon that charges up by breaking boxes rather than a traditional cooldown, meaning it’s unlikely to be abused multiple times in a fight, isn’t a bad idea. And then you would also have a T3 “Econ” item for all 3 item types. I will probably throw another post up with a version of that.

use this website. It looks nice and is pretty intuitive once you use it a couple of times. I use it for all of my Item designs. If only I could get @Fred_ to make a version for heroes. . .
